Crystals and their meanings.

I am sure that many of you have some type of crystal collection whether it is 1-2 stones that you just have to have or a huge collection of every stone you can think of. Personally I fit in the middle, although I am certainly heading towards the huge collection!

Many practitioners use crystals in their day to day workings, some in a spell they are casting, some as an amulet and some use them all day every day such as a Reiki healer.

I often get asked what the stones mean, what do I use them for, how do I know which one does what and so on. To be honest I would love to be able to remember every property for every crystal but my brain just will not store all of that information (although I do keep trying), even now after 22 years of practicing I still reach for my trusted books. No one said you had to have a great memory to be a witch (it does help at times though!)

I could write a whole essay on the crystals, their vibrations, their many uses, their categories and sub categories but we would be here forever and a day and I am sure that you want to finish reading this by the time you have drunk your cup of coffee/tea/wine!

You will hear people in the craft talk about crystals, gems, tumblestones, stones, etc. They have many names but most people are generally referring to semi precious gemstones and not the big bling bling diamond or 1ct Emerald (although they also have properties which are very useful).

I have chosen 7 gemstones to describe to you, how they can be used and which chakra they are associated with. I would recommend that if you are going to be using crystals in your practice you treat yourself to a crystal identification book and do some research into the stones yourself. See which ones call to you and maybe find out why? I am always happy to answer any questions and if at the end of this article you wish to know more about a particular gemstone or help identifying one you have in your collection I will be more than happy to help (If I don't know I will tell you as much and we can do some research together).

So hear is a list of some the popular crystals, if you wish to know more about any of them or 1 that is not on the list then please feel free to reach out and contact me.

Rose Quartz promotes unconditional love and infinite peace. It is associated with the heart chakra and helps to promote self love, inner healing, self trust, self worth and confidence. It is a great calming stone and can help to reduce stress and tension, it is a reassuring stone making it the ideal stone when dealing with a crisis.

Rose Quartz is known as the stone of love and therefore it is often used to attract a love or strengthen an existing relationship. It helps you to release love lost and open your heart to accept love.

Malachite -

Malachite is an amplifier of both positive and negative energies. It is a powerful healer and is great for drawing negative energies from the body and pollutants from the atmosphere making this an ideal stone for people living in cities.

This stone can be used on the Third eye chakra to help visualisation and psychic vision. It helps you to recognise and use your own powers. On the heart chakra it helps to balance you and bring harmony, just like rose quartz it helps you with unconditional love.

Malachite is said to be a stone of transformation, if you are drawn to malachite it can indicate that you are ready for a change. If you are feeling stuck or need help on a project Malachite is great for breaking thought patterns and showing you new creative ways forward. This stone is a good learning aid, it helps you to absorb and process information and can be used to aid with dyslexia and mental health. As a money stone it can help you with financial problems and draw money to you especially when placed with money.

This stone has many uses and is extremely powerful, it sometimes needs to be balanced with other stones especially if using it in healing.

Malachite should now be used in its raw form and should be cleansed regularly, do not place this stone in salt but charge in the sun.

Chakra- All of them.

Aventurine - This is a positive stone, it helps with leadership, and decision making. It helps to stimulate creativity and is great around the workplace. This stone is also a stone of prosperity and can be used in money spells. Aventurine protects us from enviromental pollution and electromagnetic energy making it the ideal stone for someone living in the city or working in an office.

It helps heal the heart chakra and calm anger helping to disperse negative feelings and thoughts.

Red Jasper - This is a stimulating stone, it helps us to ground ourselves. Red jasper is great for helping you to realise a problem before it gets to big. It helps promote stability and balance and offers support in times of stress. Red jasper is often used as a 'worry stone' and helps you to feel calm when holding it. It can be used to clean the aura and strengthen your boundaries. It is also a fertility stone and can be carried during pregnancy and throughout labour.

Chakra - sacral and root

Amethyst - One of my favourite crystals. Amethyst is a powerful protective stone. It helps to promote tranquillity, peace and harmony making it a great stone to meditate with. Amethyst helps you to focus and stops the mind from running away with itself. Like red jasper it can help you to remember dreams and visualise them. It can also assist with out of body experiences. It can also help stop nightmares.

Amethyst helps you to deal with emotions and helps to balance highs and lows, it helps to dispel anger, fear and anxiety and helps with grief and sadness.

Chakra - Third eye and crown.

Labradorite - This stone is a highly mystical and protective stone. Labradorite helps to protect the aura and deflect unwanted energies from it. This stone helps us realise our own potential allowing us to see into all parts of our mind. It is a great stone when reinventing yourself or experiencing a change in life as it allows you to see messages from the unconscious mind.

Labradorite brings up memories from the past and helps you to see what patterns and thoughts are causing blockages, it helps you to see your actions in a new light. It banishes fear, insecurities and psychic debris.

Labradorite increases psychic ability and helps you to travel between realms, it helps with lucid dreaming, spiritual awareness and enhancing intuition.

Chakra - Third eye and solar plexus.

Bloodstone- This stone is a powerful healer and cleanser. Believed to be able to banish evil, control the weather, and direct spiritual energies this stone is thought to have mystical and magical powers.

Bloodstone is a grounding and protective stone and like aventurine it protects us from environmental pollution and electromagnetic energy. It is a stone which can help you avoid dangerous situations and amplifies intuition and courage.

Mentally this stone helps to calm the mind, it can help with decision making, impatience and boost your mental energy when feeling sluggish or fatigued. This stone is an ideal study companion.

Chakra - Base

The descriptions above are brief and only touch on all of the uses. Like I said at the beginning I could write an essay on each of the stones but we would be here for a while. You may notice that I have not listed the healing properties, each stone has its own healing properties and I suggest you do a little research into it yourself and seek advice from a qualified healer if this is something that is of interest to you.

I hope you enjoyed reading this and found it of some use. Explore the world of crystals and even if you don't want to use them in your magic work they always look so pretty!
